The Grand Launch of The Letchworth Caribbean Harmony Group took place on Saturday 29 March 2008 at The Jackman’s Community Centre, Letchworth. The evening commenced with speeches by our Patron the acclaimed actor George Harris, the chairperson Sandra, treasurer Canice, Gurdev Delay and Eric Blakeley. The event was attended by Lorna Kercher, a local Councilor and Ashuk Ahmed, Community Development Officer for North Herts District Council.
The evening was led by Danny Small and featured Gerald Brooks as DJ, live music by Monique, Danny and the live local group The Stone Band. A raffle was held of various prizes including a beautiful Caribbean flower display designed by a supporter of the group Anne-Marie, all proceeds raised valuable funds for the group.
A selection of Caribbean food was served which proved to be very popular.

Competition results for the children’s club logo were awarded to Cameron, Charlie, Cherelle and Amanda. Also several young people in the community were recognised for various successes i.e. achieving BA honours degrees, qualification as a Probation Officer and the selection as an England football player. Gurdev Delay and Eric Blakeley were also recognised as founders of the group and given a small gift in appreciation of their help and guidance. The evening was a great success with all tickets sold and 180 people attending. Feedback and evaluation following the event has been extremely encouraging and positive. Also bringing confirmation that the group has been welcomed and is being recognised as a valuable asset to the community.

Further events are now being planned for a summer barbeque in July, a Black History event in October and a Christmas party. Tickets for these events will be made available to group members initially at a small concession.
